DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Vladimir Tikhomirov (P.N.Lebedev Physical Institute
RAS)\nPossible study of hadron production at small angles with respect to
beam \nat the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is being actively discussed now.
\nApart from a better understanding of the fundamental QCD processes\,\nth
e study of high energy particle production in the forward direction\nis an
extremely important topic for cosmic ray physics.\nSuch measurements coul
d remove uncertainties in physics models explaining\nparticle production w
ith energies up to 10^17 eV in the Universe.\nThe energy range of the part
icles explored in the proposed\nSmall-Angle-Spectrometer (SAS) experiments
at the LHC\nextends from ~1 TeV to ~6 TeV that corresponds for protons\,
kaons and pions\nto Lorentz gamma-factor value from ~10^3 to ~4*10^4.\nThe
only particle identification technique able to effectively separate hadro
ns\nwith these gamma-factors is based on the properties of the X-ray\ntran
sition radiation (TR) production.\nIn order to study this possibility\, a
dedicated set-ups based on straw\nproportional tube arrays were built and
tested at the CERN SPS accelerator.\nDedicated Monte Carlo (MC) simulation
s were also performed and compared with\nthe experimental data.\nThen this
proved MC was used for simulation of possible construction of\nfull-scale
Transition Radiation Detectors (TRD) for SAS experiments at the LHC.\nSom
e test beam results\, comparison with MC simulations and abilities of\npro
 posed full-scale TRD are presented.\n\nhttps://indico.particle.mephi.ru/ev
