 echnology)\nThermodynamic properties of strange quark matter (SQM) in a\nn
 onuniform magnetic field are studied within the phenomenological\nMIT bag 
 model under the charge neutrality and beta equilibrium\nconditions\, relev
 ant to the interior of strange quark stars. The\nspatial dependence of the
  magnetic field strength is modeled by the\ndependence on the baryon chemi
 cal potential. The total energy\ndensity\, longitudinal and transverse pre
 ssures in magnetized SQM are\nfound as functions of the baryon chemical po
 tential. It is clarified\nthat the central magnetic field strength in a st
 range quark star is\nbound from above by the value at which the derivative
  of the\nlongitudinal pressure with respect to the baryon chemical potenti
 al\nvanishes first somewhere in the interior of a star under varying the\n
 central field. Above this upper bound\, the instability along the\nmagneti
