DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Vitaliy Lyamkin (NRC "Kurchatov Institute" - PNPI)\n
New ultracold neutron source based on superfluid helium is being construct
ing at the PIK reactor for researches in the field of fundamental interact
ions physics. The use of superfluid helium will allow achieving an UCN den
sity in the source chamber of 3400 cm-3\, which is an order of magnitude h
igher than the current UCN density in sources around the world.\nTo create
this UCN source some important technologies has been developed and implem
ented: obtaining and maintaining superfluid helium at low temperatures und
er conditions of heat influx from the reactor\, manufacturing neutron guid
es with a high UCN reflection coefficient\, developing heat exchangers for
ultra-low temperatures and obtaining isotopically pure helium-4. \nThe UC
N source neutron guide system is designed for four scientific stations. Du
ring the first stage of the source's operation\, it is planned to install
an EDM spectrometer with a measurement sensitivity of 1E-27 e∙cm/year an
d two experiments to measure the neutron lifetime with an accuracy of 0.1
seconds using gravitational and magnetic traps.\n\nhttps://indico.particle

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Vasiliy Semin (JINR)\nA wide range of applied resear
ch with accelerator ions beam is being implemented at the Flerov Laborator
y of Nuclear Reactions JINR. Currently\, more than 6\,000 hours of acceler
ated time are allocated to such work per year. The volume of applied resea
rch is constantly increasing. To meet the requirements for beams and accel
eration time\, FLNR is implementing a program to create a new accelerator
complex\, DC-140. \n The accelerator complex is based on the DC-140 cyc
lotron with an ion source DECRIS-5M. The complex includes three channels w
ith experimental setups. The cyclotron operates at a single frequency of 8
.632 MHz and accelerates ions in two modes: the 2nd harmonic to an energy
of 4.8 MeV/nucleon and the 3rd harmonic to an energy of 2.214 MeV/nucleon.
The DECRIS-5M work on frequency 18 GHz allows obtaining ion beams from 16
O to 209Bi. The extraction of the accelerated beam using an electrostatic
deflector operating together with a passive magnetic channel and permanen
t magnets quadrupole (PMQ) ensures high acceleration efficiency. The exper
imental channels are equipped with all necessary diagnostic systems\, a sy
stem for forming the sample irradiation field and experimental chambers. \
n The project started in 2020. The construction of facility has been imp
lemented since 2022. Commissioning of the complex's systems will begin at
the end of 2025. The commissioning with accelerated beams started in Augus

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Simone Sanfilippo (INFN – LNS\, Catania (Italy))\n
Dual-phase liquid argon time projection chambers (LAr TPCs) are widely use
d in the direct\nsearch for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs)\,
traditionally targeting masses of\nthe order of 100 GeV. Future-generatio
n LAr TPCs aim to extend this search towards lower\nWIMP masses\, down to
the GeV scale. In this regime\, WIMP interactions are expected to\nproduce
nuclear recoils (NRs) in liquid argon with energies of only a few keV\, w
here the\ndetector response is still not fully characterized.\nTo address
this challenge\, the Recoil Directionality (ReD) experiment was developed
within\nthe DarkSide-20k Collaboration to produce and characterize few-keV
nuclear recoils in liquid\nargon. A compact dual-phase LAr TPC was irradi
ated with neutrons from a 252Cf source\,\nproducing argon nuclear recoils
through neutron scattering. A downstream spectrometer\nconsisting of 18 pl
astic scintillators detected neutrons scattered by argon nuclei\, enabling
\nthe recoil energy to be reconstructed through two-body kinematics. This
technique allowed\nthe ionization yield of liquid argon\, Q_y\, defined as
the number of electrons produced per\nunit energy deposition\, to be meas
ured in a model-independent manner down to 2 keV.\nThe measured Q_y is fou
nd to be consistent with existing measurements at higher recoil\nenergies\
, while showing an increase towards lower energies. These results provide
new\nexperimental constraints on the modeling of low-energy nuclear recoil
s in liquid argon and\nare particularly relevant for the interpretation of
Dark Matter searches in the low-mass WIMP\nregime.\nIn this contribution\
, an overview of the ReD experiment and its measurement technique will\nbe
presented\, together with the main results of the published measurement.
Finally\, the\nimpact of the improved characterization of the argon respon
se on the sensitivity of the\nupcoming DarkSide-20k experiment will be dis
cussed\, highlighting the enhanced discovery\npotential for low-mass Dark
 Matter candidates.\n\nhttps://indico.particle.mephi.ru/event/626/contribut

urements have been completed for twelve compositions based on pseudocumene
\, dodecane\, and syntin\, with varying 2\,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and nap
hthalene content. Comparative data analysis is ongoing.\nIn the analyzed p
seudocumene dilution series\, emission maxima lie at 501.5–505.5 nm. Add
ing PPO at 2 g/L does not enhance quantum-dot emission under the optical e
xcitation conditions studied. Relative suppression increases with dilution
\, reaching 48.8% in peak intensity and 35.3% in integrated band intensity
at a nominal 1:30 dilution compared with the corresponding sample without
PPO. Steady-state spectra alone cannot distinguish absorption losses from
changes in energy transfer and nonradiative decay.\nFurther absorption an

etween the solvent\, organic additives\, and quantum dots. Scintillation p

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Mikhail Bakulev (MSU Physics Faculty)\nTwo-phase (li
quid–gas) argon detectors exhibit good sensitivity to relatively low rec
oil-nucleus energies (~ 1 keV) — which is precisely why they have found
widespread application in nuclear physics and astrophysics experiments. Sc
aling up to active masses of tens of tonnes opens up another area for them
  — WIMP searches. Reconstruction of the recoil-nucleus energy from the d
etector signal is impossible without knowledge of the ionization yield\, i
.e. the ratio of the number of electrons emitted from the liquid into the
gas to the recoil-nucleus energy. Ionization yields are most conveniently
measured using neutrons that mimic WIMPs.\n\nWork on measuring argon ioniz
ation yields with a two-phase detector is underway at the Budker Institute
of Nuclear Physics. The recoil-nucleus energy of 120 keV obtained in earl
 ier measurements with a 2.45 MeV neutron beam from a D–D reaction-based
neutron generator [1] was relatively high\; moreover\, the accumulated sta
tistics were insufficient to achieve the required accuracy. A solution was
found in the use of the VITA accelerator-based neutron source at BINP SB
RAS\, employed for the development of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT)
techniques [2\, 3]: it made it possible both to increase the statistics a
nd to move to lower recoil-nucleus energies. For two series of test measur
ements\, a scintillation detector based on a stilbene single crystal and a
photomultiplier tube was used instead of the two-phase detector. This mad
e it possible to determine the detection thresholds of the neutron dtector
s and the quenching factors of the stilbene crystals. Agreement with the e
xperiment was also demonstrated by Monte Carlo simulations of the energy s
pectra of scattered neutrons.\n\nThe next phase of the experiment is curre
ntly being prepared: the light collection of the two-phase detector is to
be increased\, and the detector itself is to be placed in the bunker of th
e VITA accelerator-based neutron source. The light collection is planned t
o be improved by coating the entire surface of the detector with the wavel
ength shifter tetraphenylbutadiene (TPB). A series of studies has already
been carried out\, in which the re-emission efficiency of TPB was measured
and aging effects were investigated. The sensitivity to optical scintilla
tion signals is expected to be enhanced by installing an additional photod
etector array of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) ArrayC-60035-4P-BGA. For
these SiPMs\, the gain\, the cross-talk probability\, and the dark noise
count rate at cryogenic temperature have been measured.\n\nReferences\n

a scaled-down water tank and an outer detector module consisting of a 3-in

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Tikhon Kozin ()\nThe work reports result of studies
conducted to improve scintillation performance of plastic scintillators (P
 S) capable of neutron/gamma pulse-shape discrimination. A research group l
ed by Zaitseva from LLNL made a major contribution to the field of develop
ment such materials. However\, despite the accumulated experience of mater
ial production\, there is a demand to modify their composition in order to
improve their optical\, scintillation and mechanical characteristics. Com
mercial products with good scintillation properties (EJ276D) are currently
difficult to purchase. In this regard\, the creation of domestic\, commer
cially available analogues is relevant for solving problems in fundamental
and applied physics.\nIn this work\, methods for obtaining plastic scinti

henyl\, a mixture of diisopropylnaphthalene isomers and diphenyl were used
as fluors. The light yield\, transparency\, figure of merit and hardness
of the obtained PS samples were measured. The best performance for a sampl

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Andrei Oleinik (Belgorod State Unversity)\nPyroelect
ric effect in some single crystals exposed to temperature variations under
vacuum provides a simple route for producing and accelerating electron be
ams. In particular\, lithium tantalate (LiTaO₃) crystals can generate el
ectric field strong enough to accelerate electrons to energies exceeding 1
00 keV. This principle forms the basis of pyroelectric accelerators—comp
act systems that operate without conventional external high-voltage suppli
es or hazardous materials and have potential applications in electron\, io
n\, neutron\, and X-ray generation\, as well as for calibrations detectors
in large facilities.\nWe report our recent achievements in development o
 f pyroelectric accelerators. The quasi-continuous X-ray generation from a
LiTaO₃-based pyroelectric accelerator driven by periodic temperature var
iations is demonstrated [1]. This way allows to overcome the unpredictable
nature of conventional pyroelectric X-ray sources. Stable X-ray emission
(as electron quasimonoenergetic production) was achieved over repeated hea
ting–cooling cycles\, highlighting the potential of this approach for co
mpact and continuous radiation sources. Nowadays\, the way to control the
energy of generated electron flow in a pyroelectric accelerator is propose

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Eduard Ginya (JINR)\nThe development of efficient an
d cost-effective muon detection systems is an important task for future ci
rcular lepton colliders such as CEPC and FCC-ee. Within the R&D program fo
r the AGORA detector concept\, a scintillator-based muon system with wavel
ength-shifting (WLS) fiber readout is being investigated. The performance
of such a detector depends on the scintillator geometry\, the method of WL
S fiber integration\, and the optical transport properties of the scintill
ator and fiber.\nIn this report\, experimental and Monte Carlo studies of
scintillator strips with Kuraray Y-11 double-clad WLS fiber readout are pr
esented. The light yield was measured for strips of various geometries to
compare their optical performance. A dedicated study using extruded strips
with 10×40 mm² cross sections from different manufacturers\, with diffe
rent fiber integration methods\, determined the effective length of the WL
S fiber segment where photon capture occurs\, found to be approximately 4
cm — a result reproduced by an optical Monte Carlo model in good agreeme
nt with the experimental data.\nMonte Carlo simulations were also used to
study the timing characteristics of photon propagation in double-clad Kura
ray Y-11 WLS fibers\, comparing 1 mm and 2 mm fiber diameters as well as s
traight and loop configurations.\nThe obtained results characterize the in
fluence of strip geometry\, fiber integration methods\, and fiber configur

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nikita Ushakov (INR RAS)\nWe report a systematic stu
dy of afterpulses with anomalously long delays in photomultiplier tubes (P
MTs) with photocathode diameters ranging from 0.75 inch (Philips/HZC XP191
 1) to 20 inch (Hamamatsu R12860 and NNVT N6205). Our studies reveal a clea
r dependence of the afterpulse delay on the PMT geometry\, specifically on
the distance between the photocathode and the first dynode\; for the Hama
matsu R12860\, for instance\, this delay reaches 260 µs. These measuremen
ts are motivated by large-scale neutrino detectors\, where delayed afterpu
lses can mimic genuine neutron-capture signals and produce accidental coin
cidences with preceding positron events\, thereby degrading sensitivity to
neutrinos.\n\nThe amplitudes of such afterpulses remain at the single-pho
toelectron level\, and their probability is below 0.1% per photoelectron.
The observed delay times and the absence of dependence on the operating vo
ltage indicate that these afterpulses cannot be satisfactorily explained w
ithin the standard ion-feedback model. Their characterization is essential
for reliable background suppression and event reconstruction in large neu
trino telescopes\, and further studies are needed to clarify their origin.

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Arslan Lukanov ()\nThe Baksan large neutrino telesco
pe is a large-scale liquid scintillation detector under development at the
Baksan neutrino observatory of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the
Russian Academy of Sciences. The detector will employ a large number of ph
otomultiplier tubes (PMTs). The Earth's magnetic field can significantly a
ffect PMT perfomance and\, consequently\, the energy and timing characteri
stics of the detector. Therefore\, a magnetic field compensation system is
required to ensure stable operation of the photodetectors.\nThe influence
of the Earth's magnetic field on the Hamamatsu R7081-100 WA-S70 PMT\, sel
ected for the 5-ton BLNT prototype\, was experimentally investigated. The
measurements were performed under controlled magnetic fields generated by
 Helmholtz coils.The PMT gain\, peak-to-valley ratio of the single-photoele
ctron charge spectrum\, and transit-time characteristics were studied as f
unctions of the magnetic field components. The results demonstrate that ma
gnetic fields of the order of 0.1 G can already affect the PMT response. T
hus\, developing a magnetic field compensation system is a necessary task.

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Amina Guseinova ()\nUnusual rectangular structures w
ere observed for the first time using a resulting fragment mass–mass mat
rix in experiments on the FOBOS spectrometer studying the spontaneous fiss
ion of 248Cm and 252Cf nuclei. These structures are associated with a larg
e "missing" mass and are bounded by magic nuclei\, and they were interpret
ed as a manifestation of a new exotic decay mode – triple collinear clus
ter decay (TCCD). These pioneering results have been repeatedly confirmed
and refined in a series of subsequent experiments. At the stage of interpr
eting the obtained data\, an assessment of the statistical reliability of
the aforementioned linear structures in the mass–mass distribution of th
e registered fragments is required.\n\nThis report presents the results of
a comparison between assessments of the statistical reliability of point
linear structures using the standard Hough transform and a modified Hough
transform that offers greater robustness to noise and outliers. In the cla
ssical Hough method\, each experimental point is treated as a point source
of votes in parameter space. To reduce the influence of extreme points\,
random points are generated inside a bounding circle\, which lowers the pr
obability of false maxima along diagonal directions. However\, this approa
ch does not account for finite measurement accuracy. In this work\, a Houg
h method has been implemented in a way that each experimental point is rep
resented by a circle whose radius corresponds to the measurement uncertain
ty. The sought line is then treated as a band of finite thickness (greater
than one pixel). Such a band may fully or partially overlap the "smeared"
point. The simulation was carried out on a 100×100 pixel field with appr
oximately 25 random points generated. During voting\, partial intersection
s of the line band with the uncertainty regions of the points were taken i
nto account. The results of both methods were compared. It is shown that t
he probability of a random occurrence of linear structures on the plane do
es not exceed 2% for either method.\n\nhttps://indico.particle.mephi.ru/ev

the velocity of a heavy ion using a semiconductor detector (PIN diode): th
e method based on a subjective optimization criterion that employs the mat
hematical formalism of subjective modeling (MFSM) proposed by Yu. P. Pytye
v\, and the generalized cross-validation (GCV) method. The MFSM makes it p
ossible to formulate mathematically both a subjective model of the object
under study and a subjective mathematical model of its measurements and th
eir subjective interpretation. Using the MFSM\, one can mathematically for
malize the subjective judgments of the researcher-modeler regarding the ph
ysical properties of the object under study\, the means of its measurement
\, the mathematical properties of noise\, and so on\; all such subjective
information is based on the researcher-modeler's scientific experience and
scientific intuition. The GCV (Generalized Cross-Validation) method is a
statistical method used to select the regularization parameter when solvin
g ill-posed problems\, smoothing data\, or reconstructing signals. GCV hel
ps to efficiently estimate noise and to choose smoothing in problems where
direct estimation of parameters is difficult. A computational experiment

ctor positioned at the end of the facility. This detector is required to i
dentify J/ψ particles via their decay into two muons (μ+μ−) and subse

into J/ψ + γ\, with the ultimate goal of measuring the gluon contributi
on to the proton spin. This paper presents the concept for the muon detect
or's construction. The proposed design comprises three pairs of tracking p
lanes with a total area of ~12 m²\, interleaved with steel filters assemb
led from disks approximately 4 m in diameter and 220 mm thick. Each pair o

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Semyon Yurchenko (Saint Petersburg State University\
, Laboratory of ulta-high energy physics)\nPrecise determination of the ev
ent collision time t_{0} is essential for particle identification with tim
e-of-flight detectors. In the ALICE experiment\, the event time can be rec
onstructed from measured TOF signals by comparing them with expected fligh
t times under different particle-mass hypotheses [1\,2]. The corresponding
optimization problem is combinatorial\, and practical reconstruction proc
edures therefore employ restricted hypothesis searches and rejection crite
ria. \n\nWe present an exact polynomial-time method for global minimizatio
n of the event-time objective function. The algorithm determines the optim
al particle hypotheses together with the corresponding t0 without exhausti
ve enumeration of all hypothesis assignments. The method was validated aga
inst brute-force enumeration at low multiplicity\, where identical particl
 e assignments\, event times\, and objective-function values were obtained.
It was further benchmarked against the event-time reconstruction procedur
e implemented in the ALICE O2 framework [3\,4] using simulated pp and Pb-P
b events. For typical events\, the optimized O2 procedure remains highly c
ompetitive in execution time\, while the exact method provides a guarantee
d global optimum and can therefore serve as a reference for validating heu
ristic reconstruction approaches. \n\nWe also demonstrate ambiguous event
configurations for which the restricted search converges to a suboptimal s
olution\, producing a shifted reconstructed event time and incorrect parti
cle assignments\, whereas the exact algorithm recovers the global minimum.
The proposed method can therefore be used both as a validation tool and a
 s a component of future hybrid event-time reconstruction algorithms.\n\nRe

of\nsecondary particles. For their registration and identification\, it i
s proposed to use modules of a High\nGranularity Neutron Detector (HGND).
The detector has a layered structure\, where each active\nlayer consists o
f individual cells. This work considers the possibility of replacing passi
ve layers\nwith active layers made of a high-density scintillator — bism
uth orthogermanate Bi₄Ge₃O₁₂ (BGO).\nHowever\, the use of BGO for
time-of-flight (TOF) measurements is complicated by the long signal\nrise
time (>100 ns) and requires the development of specialized electronics (am
plifier). The report\npresents a time-of-flight data analysis method appli
ed to data obtained during testing of a BGO\ncrystal with the developed am
plifier on an experimental test bench. Additionally\, the results of\nsimu
lations of a prototype detector based on BGO crystals are presented.\n\nht

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nazar Burmasov (NRC «Kurchatov Institute» - PNPI)\
nA straw-tube forward tracking detector is being considered for the second
stage of the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) at the NICA collider. It would
extend the MPD acceptance to forward rapidities and broaden the accessible
physics program. In central heavy-ion collisions\, high hit density and g
host hits create a large combinatorial background\, making robust track re
construction challenging. We present recent developments of the ACTS-based
reconstruction aimed at improving its performance in this environment.\n\
nRecent work focused on two stages that were found to limit the reconstruc
tion performance: space-point creation and track seeding. The space-point
algorithm combines measurements from stereo-crossed straw layers. Its ambi
guity resolution was studied using a graph neural network\, and the determ
inistic selection was subsequently optimized to improve the balance betwee
n reconstruction efficiency and background suppression. In parallel\, a cu
stom seeding algorithm was developed to exploit space points from all five
tracking stations\, instead of the three fixed stations used in the previ
ous ACTS-based setup. This makes seed reconstruction less sensitive to mis
sing or ambiguous space points in individual stations.\n\nWith these impro
vements\, high reconstruction efficiency for trackable primary pions is ac
hieved in central Au-Au events at $\\sqrt{s_{\\rm{NN}}}=11$ GeV simulated
with UrQMD\, while maintaining high reconstructed-track purity. Further de
velopments will include matching with the forward TOF detector to study it
s potential for additional ghost suppression.\n\nhttps://indico.particle.m

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Alexander Bolozdynya (NRNU MEPhI)\nThe fundamental p
rocess of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) has been pr
edicted based on the Standard Model of elementary particles and interactio
ns more than 40 years ago. For heavy nuclei\, the cross-section of this pr
ocess exceeds (in more than two orders of magnitude) the cross-sections of
other known low-energy neutrino interaction processes such as inverse bet
a decay and neutrino scattering off atomic shell electrons. This interacti
on channel plays a significant role in Universe processes accompanied by i
ntensive neutrino fluxes and can be used to monitor the state of nuclear r
eactor cores enhancing nuclear power safety. The CEvNS process was first d
etected in an accelerator experiment in 2017 by the international COHERENT
collaboration\, in whose work some of the authors of this project partici
pate. Detecting the CEvNS process for reactor neutrinos is a significantly
more challenging task\, as the energy release from elastic coherent scatt
ering off heavy atomic nuclei does not exceed a few hundred eV. At the Int
er-departmental Laboratory for Experimental Nuclear Physics of NRNU MEPhI
the RED-100 cryogenic two-phase emission detector has been developed and c
onstructed to study the CEvNS process for reactor electron antineutrinos.
The detector is based on a technology first proposed at MEPhI approximatel
y 50 years ago and currently used worldwide in experiments searching for d
ark matter particles in the Universe.\n In 2020–2022 the RED-100 d
etector\, utilizing ~200 kg of liquid xenon as working medium\, underwent
testing at the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant. The experiment demonstrated th
at the reactor neutrino detection technology developed at NRNU MEPhI is ca
pable of detecting the CEvNS effect in a nuclear power plant environment.
This study provided the best current upper limit on the CEvNS cross-secti
on for xenon nuclei\, which is consistent with the Standard Model. Prepara
tory work has since been carried out for an experiment using a modified ve
rsion of the RED-100 detector aimed at detecting reactor neutrinos via the
CEvNS interactions with argon nuclei serving as the neutrino target.\n
An analysis of the results from the first experiment using liquid xeno
n as the working medium of the RED-100 (2020–2022)\, combined with labor
atory tests of the RED-100 using liquid argon (2025–2026)\, has shown th
at using argon atoms as a target for reactor neutrinos will enable reliabl
e observation of the CEvNS effect. To verify this conclusion\, it is propo
sed to conduct the second test of the RED-100 setup with liquid argon work
ing medium at the Kalinin NPP. This project aims to develop independent me
thods for the remote monitoring of the active core of NPP reactors.\n\nhtt

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ozturk Sertac (Istinye University)\nWe present cosmi
c muon flux measurements performed across two geomagnetically distinct env
ironments with a novel concentric double-layer plastic scintillator telesc
ope\, developed and produced entirely in-house. The detector employs a nes
ted geometry in which a cylindrical active core is coaxially enclosed by a
cup-shaped outer scintillator\, so that coincidence between the two optic
ally isolated volumes provides active background rejection and wide-angle
acceptance within a portable\, two-channel package. Both volumes were cast
  from a custom epoxy-resin matrix doped with PPO and POPOP\, a liquid-phas
e route that removes the need for geometry-specific glass moulds and permi
ts complex shapes such as the outer cup\, which would be difficult and cos
tly to machine from commercial scintillator blocks. GEANT4 simulations giv
e a geometric factor of 60.6 cm²sr\, in agreement with the Sullivan analy
tical prediction to within 2% and approximately three times that of a conv
entional flat two-panel telescope built from the same detector diameters.
The nested geometry exhibits no hard angular cut-off\, and its coincidence
efficiency is flat from 50 MeV to 50 GeV\, so that soft muons below 1 GeV
/c are registered without loss.\n\nThe system was deployed during the 10th
Turkish Antarctic Expedition\, with measurements taken at a mid-latitude
baseline in Istanbul and at Horseshoe Island\, Antarctica. After barometri
c correction the Antarctic flux exceeds the Istanbul baseline by approxima
tely 41%\, consistent with the reduced geomagnetic cut-off rigidity at pol
ar latitudes and with an appreciable soft-component response\, the latter
independently supported by a barometric coefficient ratio of about 3.3 bet
ween the two sites. A Forbush decrease was also recorded in Istanbul\, coi
nciding with a Kp ≈ 8 geomagnetic storm driven by a coronal mass ejectio
n and corroborated by simultaneous neutron monitor data. Pre- and post-exp
edition fluxes agree within statistical uncertainty\, indicating that inte
rcontinental transport did not affect the detector response.\n\nThe talk a
dditionally reports on the wider scintillator development programme from w
hich this instrument emerged: the optical and scintillation characterisati
on of the epoxy-resin material against commercial scintillators\, laborato
ry results on formulations engineered for pulse-shape discrimination inclu

ity\, and a Monte Carlo feasibility study of opaque plastic scintillators

SUMMARY:The "Neutron Beta Decay" installation for the reactor PIK

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Alexey Fomin (PNPI NRC KI)\nThe neutron instrument c
omplex "Neutron Beta Decay" is currently being manufactured to be located
on the beam of polarized cold neutrons on the GEK-3 N0 channel. The facili
ty is designed to measure the electron\, neutrino\, and electron-neutrino
asymmetries of neutron beta decay. The experiment is necessary because the
results of the most recent\, most precise neutron decay experiments\, con
ducted at an accuracy level of 10$^{−3}$\, cannot be described within th
e Standard Model. The basis of the facility is a superconducting solenoid\
, which generates a uniform magnetic field of 0.35 T. Electrons and proton
s produced during neutron decay move in a magnetic field along magnetic fi
eld lines. To select a specific electron emission angle\, a magnetic mirro
r effect is used by creating a region with a stronger magnetic field\, wit
h an induction of 0.88 T. The decay region is selected by protons\, which
are further accelerated by an electric field. This is achieved by using an
electrostatic system that increases the voltage in the decay region to 30
kV. Detectors at the input and output of the neutron beam are used to rec
ord the electrons and protons. The aim of the experiment is to improve the
accuracy of measuring correlation coefficients by ~3 times. Comprehensive
simulation of the experiment was carried out.\n\nhttps://indico.particle.
