In this talk, we present an overview of hot and dense matter study in heavy ion collisions from STAR experiment at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, which include recent highlights in QCD phase transition, critical point search, heavy flavor & jet, electromagnetic probe, global polarization in heavy ion collisions. The nucleon spin structure study with proton-proton collision will also be discussed.
