Description
Comparison of energy spectra of electrons and antineutrinos can help in understanding the mechanism of beta decay, which is not fully clear yet. Measuring an antineutrino spectrum from a known beta isotope requires an experiment with a large, high-resolution detector and a powerful source. Mirror symmetry can be checked by measuring the antineutrino spectrum and comparing it to the beta one. Modern detectors of large volume allow to make this with a powerful enough source. The main challenge is obtaining a pure, powerful source. We propose to measure the antineutrino spectrum using a high-activity radioactive source of 90Sr-90Y (~1 MCi), located on the top of large volume detector, for example the current JUNO experiment.
