Description
A prototype for the BBC subsystem was mounted at the Internal Target Station (ITS) of the Nuclotron/NICA accelerator complex and tested with ¹²⁴Xe beam at an energy of 2.2 GeV/nucleon. Two sectors, each consisted of 8 scintillation tiles, were tested using with the full data acquisition system based on the FERS5200 electronics.
The study describes the data obtained in both trigger and triggerless modes. The contribution of the detected nuclear fragments are clearly identifiable on the energy deposition correlation histograms. This result demonstrates the system’s efficiency and becomes an important step toward the development of the BBC subsystem for the upcoming SPD experiment.
